Your prayers play a vital role in bringing the good news to the people of Yueyang and there is no way for us to express our gratitude to those of you who faithfully ’stand in the gap’ for the people of Yueyang on a regular basis!

While the focus of this blog is to mobilize prayer, occasionally we will let you know about other ways you can be involved in bringing the Good News to those who need it desperately. One of those ways is by giving generously and obediently to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. (We encourage Southern Baptists to give through their local churches, however you can use the link above to give online right now.)

In addition to the prayer requests found on this blog and the prayer calendar, be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit as you spend a minute or two in prayer every day for the people of Yueyang.

November Prayer Calendar is Available

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

The November Prayer Calendar for the people of Yueyang China is available for viewing and download. Please take a minute to download this month’s calendar and to print it out and post somewhere where you will be reminded daily to pray for the people of Yueyang!

November in Yueyang is usually cold and wet as winter is just starting to set in. Unlike the northern part of China, homes, offices and classrooms in China are usually NOT heated. The chill that can set in will cut you to the bone.

As you remember the people of Yueyang, China throughout the month of November, will you faithfully intercede on behalf of the lost who do not know Christ and who have never had a chance to hear the Good News explained in a way that they can understand?

Pray that the Holy Spirit will light a fire, in the middle of a cold and wet month, in the hearts of the people of Yueyang and that there will be an awesome response to the hope of the Gospel!

In addition to the prayer requests found on this blog and the prayer calendar, be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit as you spend a minute or two in prayer every day for the people of Yueyang.

September marks the end of summer and the approach of autumn. Students of all ages are returning to school and as the weather begins to cool after a long, hot summer, being outside becomes much more comfortable.

Last month the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing were successfully completed. There were many stories about a whole host of China topics in the mainstream media. We hope you took the opportunity to be especially mindful of Yueyang in your prayers every time China was brought to mind.

In addition to the prayer requests found on this blog and the prayer calendar, be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit as you spend a minute or two in prayer every day for the people of Yueyang.

Hand, foot and mouth disease

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Contagious hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) had led to 28 deaths in China as of Wednesday morning, according to Xinhua’s tally based on confirmed death reports from provincial-level health bureaus.

The central province of Hunan and southwestern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region reported their first and only HFMD death on Wednesday, after health minister Chen Zhu put the national death toll at 26 on Tuesday.

In Hunan, a two-year-old girl in Shahe Village, Changde City died at 5:20 a.m. on Tuesday, despite medical treatment. She had tested positive for enterovirus 71 (EV71), the most deadly strain of the virus family that has been linked to fatal HFMD cases in China.

Hand, foot and mouth disease is a common childhood illness that spreads through contact with saliva, feces, fluid secreted from blisters or mucus from the nose and throat. There is no vaccine or specific treatment, but most children typically recover quickly. It is unrelated to the foot and mouth disease that affects livestock.

Both Mao and WHO China representative Hans Troedsson said they expected more cases of hand, foot and mouth because of the tighter reporting requirements and because the disease will likely peak in June and July.

Last year, some 80,000 hand, foot and mouth cases were recorded in China, with 17 deaths, Mao said, adding that the figures were likely incomplete.

Troedsson said there are outbreaks caused by variations of EV-71 in China, Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore, where there have been a total of 10,490 cases in 2008.

“We need to put it in the right perspective,” Troedsson said. “This is something that regularly happens in countries in this region.”

March 2008 Calendar ImageThe March calendar is available, have you downloaded it yet? Please take a minute to download this month’s calendar and to print it out and post somewhere where you will be reminded daily to pray for the people of Yueyang!

March is the month when Yueyang begins to enter spring time. This is especially significant after the harsh winter, the worst in 50 years, experienced by the people of Yueyang. Our prayer is that this spring will mark new beginnings for people all over Yueyang as they give their lives to Jesus Christ.

This month we challenge Christians everywhere to spend some time in thought and prayer for the people of Yueyang. In addition to the prayer requests found on this blog and in the prayer calendar, be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit as you spend a minute or two in prayer every day for the people of Yueyang.

Continue to pray for the snow-hit areas in Hunan

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

On Friday, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao returned to badly hit Hunan province for the second time this week and again berated officials to step up efforts to clear roads and get electricity back on line.

“To clear the roads means to ensure that the main railways and highways are opened, to ensure electricity means to repair damaged power lines as soon as possible,” Wen was seen on state television as saying.

“To comfort the public means to ensure the livelihood of the people, especially to make sure that those people stranded or delayed are provided with food, warmth and access to medical services.”

He also ordered top leaders to “the frontlines of the disaster,” calling relief efforts a “time to test the will, the determination and the abilities of our officials.”
